Evergreen ETA: where it comes from, how current it is, how far plans held

Where does the ETA on my Evergreen tracking page come from, and how far can I trust it?

It is Evergreen's own Estimated Date of Arrival at Destination: the latest dated one bexy has read for the Bill of Lading. Until bexy has read a dated one, the page shows the last dated stop in Evergreen's Plan Moves instead. It is the carrier's estimate, not bexy's, and Evergreen can revise it as the voyage goes on.

Where the ETA comes from

Evergreen's tracking record gives an Estimated Date of Arrival at Destination: its estimate for the end of the journey on the Bill of Lading, which can be an inland place of delivery beyond the port of discharge. bexy shows the latest dated one it has read as the ETA.

bexy does not calculate or adjust the ETA, and it does not use vessel positions.

When Evergreen gives no ETA

When Evergreen shows the ETA as "To be advised" and bexy has never read a dated one for the Bill of Lading, the tracking page shows the last dated stop in Evergreen's Plan Moves in its place; the Markdown version of the page marks it as the last planned arrival.

A "To be advised" that bexy reads later does not erase an ETA it already holds: the page keeps the last dated ETA bexy read, and Evergreen may no longer stand by it.

With neither an ETA nor a dated planned stop, the page shows no arrival date, and the badge reads Departed once the loaded-on-board date has passed.

How current it is

bexy reads a shipment's record again only at these times:

After the estimated arrival
Once the ETA has passed, or without one the last dated planned arrival, bexy re-checks the shipment in hourly batches until a status reports it at its final destination, or until 30 days after that date if none does.
While someone watches it
A shipment someone watches for email alerts is re-checked about every 12 hours until the watch ends, ETA or not.
When someone searches for it
A search for a shipment not yet reported at its final destination re-reads it when bexy last read it 6 hours ago or more, within an hourly limit on such re-reads, unless bexy has taken its final reading of it.
Never on a page view
Opening a tracking page, the https://bexy.io/track?number= address and the MCP tools show the record as stored.

What that means for the date you see

Between those times bexy's copy does not change, so a shipment that nobody watches or searches for keeps the ETA bexy last read until that date has passed. A shipment with neither an ETA nor a dated planned arrival is re-checked only while someone watches it or when someone searches for it.

The "data as of" date on a tracking page is the date of the last reading that changed bexy's copy of the record, or of the final reading once bexy stops re-checking, so a re-read that finds nothing new leaves it as it was.

How far Evergreen's planned arrivals held

Shipment by shipment, bexy compares the day a container was discharged at the port of discharge with Evergreen's first planned arrival there in the Plan Moves, as bexy read the Bill of Lading: the schedule slip vs plan. It measures the port-side plan, not the ETA to an inland place of delivery, and because Evergreen's plan can change after booking, the plan bexy read may already differ from the one at booking. A slip is published only when at least 20 shipments across at least 5 sailings back it: every container on a late vessel is late together.

On the 2,724 Evergreen shipments with both a planned arrival and a recorded discharge on its international routes, across 536 sailings, the median slip was +1 day, after the planned arrival, and the middle half ran from 0 to +4 days.

Negative is ahead of plan. Per shipment, the day a container was discharged at the port of discharge minus Evergreen's first planned arrival there, in whole days; slips of more than 60 days early or late are dropped as data errors.
